Jason Voorhees Returns: 'Friday the 13th' Prequel Series Wraps Filming as New Movie Talks Heat Up

Jason Voorhees is officially making his long-awaited comeback, ending more than a decade of dormancy since the last Friday the 13th film hit theaters. Fans of the legendary hockey mask-wearing slasher can finally rejoice as both a prequel television series and a potential new movie are now in motion, signaling a full-scale resurrection of one of horror’s most iconic franchises.
A major milestone in this revival is the completion of filming for *Crystal Lake, a prequel series developed by A24 and Peacock. Showrunner and executive producer Brad Caleb Kane announced the wrap on social media, celebrating alongside cast and crew at an official wrap party. In his post, Kane expressed gratitude for the team’s efforts, writing:
“CRYSTAL LAKE wrap party was epic! I’m madly in love with and totally in awe of this stellar bunch of artists and humans. A fella couldn’t ask for a more talented and wonderful group of collaborators. S1 (almost sorta not quite) done and dusted. More please and thank you.”
The series will reportedly explore a young Jason Voorhees, played by Callum Vinson, and his troubled bond with his domineering mother, Pamela Voorhees — portrayed by Linda Cardellini. Other cast members include William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Joy Suprano, and Cameron Scoggins, who were all seen at the celebration.
Meanwhile, fans may soon see Jason’s return to the big screen as well. The last Friday the 13th movie, directed by Marcus Nispel, premiered in 2009. However, Collider recently reported that former WWE wrestler Adam Scherr is in talks to take on the role of the infamous killer in a new cinematic reboot. Scherr revealed that discussions are underway between his agency and production partners, calling the part his “dream horror role.”
Together, these two major developments, Crystal Lake’s upcoming debut and the potential new film mark a powerful resurgence for the Friday the 13th universe. With Jason Voorhees set to stalk again, fans can expect a new era of terror at Camp Crystal Lake.
