Jack MacKenzie Injured by Thrown Seat

Aberdeen player Jack MacKenzie was injured after being struck by a seat thrown from the away end during his side’s 2-1 defeat at Tannadice. The defender received medical treatment following the incident. An SPFL spokesperson expressed disappointment, calling the behavior "moronic" and stated they would work with clubs and Police Scotland to identify the perpetrator and impose sanctions. Police Scotland are investigating and appealing for information, stating that part of a chair was thrown from the upper deck of the Fair Play stand, injuring MacKenzie.
Superintendent Ray Birnie condemned the act and appealed to fans for assistance in tracing the responsible individual. Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin described the incident as “totally unacceptable,” noting MacKenzie sustained a bad injury. United boss Jim Goodwin, who had experienced similar incidents, called it an “absolute disgrace” and urged authorities to take action.
PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart, who witnessed the scene, expressed concern and warned about the consequences of not addressing such issues. He emphasized the need for conversations between governing bodies, clubs, and associations to find a solution to prevent future incidents. The incident occurred after Aberdeen dropped to fifth in the Premiership, while Dundee United secured a European place with the win. Jeppe Okkels scored for Aberdeen, but goals from Declan Gallagher and Sam Dalby secured the victory for United.
The game saw Dundee United leapfrogging Jimmy Thelin’s men into fourth place with a comeback win. Okkels scored his first goal for the Dons since signing on loan from Preston in January after 15 minutes. United gradually came back into it, and in the 56th minute Gallagher leveled with a header from a Glenn Middleton corner. Dalby put United ahead with a penalty in the 62nd minute. Jim Goodwin’s men finished fourth which brings a potential Europe League qualifying place. Aberdeen can still qualify for Europe if they win the Scottish Cup against Celtic next week.
St Mirren fought out a 1-1 draw with Celtic at Parkhead but that was not enough to prevent them finishing sixth. The Taysiders had suffered four successive post-split defeats while Aberdeen had lost their last three games, including a 5-1 thrashing at Celtic. Aberdeen went ahead when Alexander Jensen picked up the loose ball and cut it back for Okkels to lift the ball high into the net from 10 yards. Gallagher leapt inside a packed six-yard box to head in after United forced a series of corners. Referee John Beaton pointed to the spot when Ryan Strain was fouled in the box by Okkels, and Dalby sent Mitov the wrong way with his spot-kick.
