J-Pop Dominance: Arashi Breaks Records, JI BLUE Secures No. 1 Spot on Japan Hot 100
JI BLUE's "Keshiki" has soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, driven by strong sales and radio play, while Arashi's "Five" made a significant leap to No. 2 due to a surge in fan engagement. New entries from Lienel and consistent performances from other artists illustrate the dynamic landscape of the Japanese music charts. The rankings reflect diverse factors, including physical sales, streams, and fan activity.
JI BLUE’s “Keshiki” has impressively climbed to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart, dated June 10. This track is the official theme song for the Japan national soccer team campaign, “Saiko no Keshiki wo 2026.” JI BLUE is a unique special unit composed of soccer-loving members carefully selected from the popular boy bands JO1 and INI, highlighting a collaborative effort between the groups for a significant national event.
The song’s success is multifaceted, driven by robust sales and strong airplay. The physical CD version of “Keshiki” sold an impressive 384,166 copies in its debut week, securing the No. 1 position for sales. Furthermore, the track also dominated radio airplay, topping that category, and achieved a respectable No. 18 ranking for downloads, indicating a broad appeal across various consumption platforms.
Another significant movement on the chart was Arashi’s “Five,” which saw a notable surge, rising from No. 7 to No. 2. This remarkable climb was fueled by a substantial wave of fan engagement following the conclusion of the group's activities, marked by the final night of their last tour at Tokyo Dome on May 31. This event led to dramatic increases across digital metrics, with downloads surging by 354% week-over-week, streaming up by 223%, and video views increasing by 233%. The immense fan activity also propelled Arashi to a historic record of 24 simultaneous chart entries, the highest number ever achieved by any act in the history of the Japan Hot 100.
Debuting strongly at No. 3 is “Melo Collection,” the debut single from Lienel, a six-member EBiDAN-affiliated group that made its major-label debut on June 3. The track launched with considerable commercial success, selling 241,973 copies to secure the No. 2 spot for sales, though its radio airplay placed at No. 42.
Following closely at No. 4 is Boku ga Mitakatta Aozora’s “FUNKY SUMMER,” which sold 90,035 copies, landing at No. 4 for sales and also at No. 4 for radio airplay, showcasing a balanced performance. Rounding out the top five is Tsubaki Factory’s “FireWorks,” which achieved No. 3 on sales with 117,077 copies sold.
The Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart, which tallied the week from June 1 to 7, comprehensively combines various data points to determine its rankings. These include physical and digital sales, audio streams, radio airplay, video views, and karaoke data, providing a holistic view of a song's popularity and reach within the Japanese music market.
