It's Official: 'Teen Mom' Star Jenelle Evans is Now Legally Divorced from David Eason (Exclusive Details)

After eight years, plenty of 911 calls, a dead dog scandal, abuse claims, a (sinking) house in the swamp, one kid, countless social media fights, a broken boat and plenty of raking, the marriage of and has come to an end.
can confirm that, as of Friday, the Easons’ swampy (and seriously unhinged) union was finally put out of its misery by a North Carolina judge. As The Ashley told you on Thursday, Jenelle filed a motion in June to demand that the “absolute divorce” she filed for in May would be granted, as neither she nor David were contesting the divorce.
The judge agreed to grant the requested “absolute divorce,” although Jenelle and David did not have to present at the virtual hearing. (Their attorneys represented them for the proceedings.)

A certificate has been issued by the State of North Carolina to prove that the Easons’ marriage is over. Wanna see? (Of course you do…)
Jenelle also requested that the court restore her last name back to Evans, which was also done on Friday.
“Plaintiff is granted an absolute divorce from Defendant, and the marriage bonds existing between the parties are hereby forever dissolved,” the Divorce Judgement— obtained by The Ashley—reads. “Plaintiff is allowed to resume the use of her pre-marriage name, Jenelle Evans.”
While Jenelle and David have officially ended their marriage, they haven’t ended their squabbling over custody of their daughter Ensley, child support, their house on and other marital issues. That fight— which is being done via a different court case that started in February 2024 when Jenelle filed for “divorce from bed and board”— is still ongoing.

The former soulmates are due to meet in court for mediation on August 11. That mediation hearing was supposed to be held this week but the court continued it until August. From what The Ashley’s sources tell her, David’s upcoming court hearing for his felony assault by strangulation and misdemeanor child abuse (for an incident involving Jenelle’s eldest son Jace) may have played a part in it.
“They may want to see what– if anything— is resolved at David’s hearing on August 8,” the source said. “If so, that could determine some stuff in the divorce case he has going with Jenelle.”

On Friday, Jenelle answered some questions regarding the divorce, with one fan even telling her that The Ashley was reporting that the divorce was happening Friday.
“Finally!” Jenelle wrote. “NC make people suffer through a divorce.”

When another person asked her (via Instagram Stories Q&A) how she’s doing without David, Jenelle wrote, “I’m thriving. I actually realized my worth you guys.”
As The Ashley previously reported, North Carolina law requires a couple who is seeking a divorce to be legally separated and living apart for one year (with no hanky-panky) before they can officially file for a divorce. (Right after their split in February 2024, Jenelle filed for a “divorce from bed and board” which is essentially a court-ordered legal separation that does not end the marriage.) Once that year has passed, the couple can officially file for divorce, which Jenelle did in May.
In court documents obtained by The Ashley, Jenelle lists the date of her and David’s separation as February 16, 2024.
This is the second divorce for both David and Jenelle. Jenelle married to her first husband, , in December 2012 at a North Carolina courthouse right after Courtland was charged by the same court for a felony. (As you do!) The couple celebrated their marriage with a fancy lunch at The Olive Garden. (No, seriously…)

Just months later, the couple— who were both using heroin at the time— split, and Jenelle would go on to abort the child she had conceived with Courtland. Very shortly after, Jenelle met and got pregnant with their son Kaiser. (Click here for the full timeline of Jenelle and Courtland’s tumultuous relationship.)
David was previously married to (who is the mother of his eldest daughter Maryssa). In 2023, text messages sent to Whitney by David were leaked that showed the aspiring swamp rapper flirting with his ex and complaining about Jenelle’s lack of tidiness and other things. At the time the messages were leaked, Jenelle and David both stated publicly that the texts were “fake.” However, while promoting her “divorce party” in June, Jenelle stated that those messages were the catalyst for her filing for divorce from David.
“I think he cheated on me with his ex-wife,” she told Us Weekly last month. “When those text messages came out, that was pretty much the breaking point.”

Jenelle is currently single (after a disastrous relationship with her manager-turned-soulmate ended in January), while David has been dating since shortly after he split from Jenelle. Last year, he stated that he won’t get hitched a third time.

“I’ll never get married again!” David insisted. “That’s for sure. There’s no reason to get married to anybody, ever…Not through the government, not through the paperwork. You don’t gotta be in the system to be married. That’s not what marriage is. Marriage is not a piece of paper! I promise you that. Anyone who tells you it is is wrong! Don’t do it!”
In a statement issued to TMZ, Jenelle claims her focus is now on her kid.
“After a really long and draining process, my divorce from David is official,” she declared. “This chapter has been heavy, but I’m walking away from it with clarity, strength and so much love for my kids. My focus is on them and our future and I’m just thankful to finally have peace and a fresh start.”
