It's Not Ryan Gosling or Jake Gyllenhaal, Martin Scorsese Called This Star Wars Actor the Best
Veteran director Martin Scorsese has worked with countless actors and actresses through his decades-long Hollywood career. Although Scorsese carefully handpicks the cast to fit the role perfectly, the director does have his favorites.
It wasn’t Ryan Gosling nor was it Jake Gyllenhaal, but Martin Scorsese complimented a Star Wars actor during an event. Although fans initially hated him in the franchise, Scorsese hailed Adam Driver as the best actor that this generation has seen!
Although Adam Driver hadn’t worked with Martin Scorsese as extensively as Leonardo DiCaprio or Robert De Niro, a single 2016 film with Driver was enough for Scorsese to be all praise for the Megalopolis star.

In 2016, Martin Scorsese worked with Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driver in a film called Silence. The film followed two priests who traveled to Japan in search of their master, who had been promoting Catholicism by going against the law.
Well, in 2019, when Adam Driver was being honored at the Telluride Awards, Martin Scorsese had made a surprise appearance to praise and compliment the actor.
The viral clip was shared all over the internet, where Scorsese and Driver were seen hugging each other after the director had said that Adam Driver was the finest actor that this generation had ever seen (via X).
[He is] A great screen presence, but, truly… One finest, if not the finest, in this generation.
Silence was a film that pushed us forward into questions of faith and morality, and Martin Scorsese had the perfect balance to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Although the film wasn’t a big commercial success like some other Scorsese movies, Driver was a big fan of what the movie promised: something different, which people hadn’t seen before.
In 2024, the actor worked alongside Francis Ford Coppola and starred in a film titled Megalopolis. The film was a disappointing failure, but at least, people got to see something new in theaters.

Well, in an interview with Deadline, Ford Coppola and Adam Driver sat down to talk about their film. During his talks, Driver mentioned that the magic of modern movies was that they showed something unique.
Films are supposed to push us forward not give us another dose of something that we’ve already seen. [Films] leave nothing for you to discover. Those are not the movies I’m attracted to historically.
That passion is what drives the Marriage Story actor to be better, and hence, Martin Scorsese’s statements ring true for the actor. One single film was enough for the veteran director to witness Driver’s passion, and hopefully, the actor doesn’t let go of it.
Silence currently stands at a rating of 7.2/10 on IMDb and a whopping 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Although it is not one of Scorsese’s most commercial films, it is a pretty good movie to watch.
