The Plastic Repair Alliance Council, a global initiative aimed at standardizing plastic repair practices within the collision repair industry has launched.
The council's mission is to promote comprehensive best practices and standards for plastic repair, support globally unified training and certification programs, identify specialized tools and repair methods and collaborate to reduce plastic waste and support sustainability solutions.
The 15-member group is made up of senior leaders and technical experts from North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Australia. George Varagic, general manager of SATA Canada, is the sole Canadian councillor. The other members are drawn from prominent organizations, including 3M, Akzo-Nobel, the Boyd Group, Caliber Collision, Mirka, PPG, Polyvance and SEM.
"As plastic components such as bumpers, headlights and trims, become the most frequently replaced parts in modern vehicles — and current repair volumes represent only a fraction of what can be repaired — the lack of consistent global standards presents both a safety and cost challenge," said Kurt Lammon, a councillor and the president of Polyvance, in a press release.
