International Aid Following Natural Disasters: China to Myanmar Earthquake, Mexico Traffic Accident
China dispatched a team of approximately 30 experts to Myanmar to conduct an earthquake investigation and assessment at the request of the Myanmar government. The China Earthquake Administration (CEA) led the team, which included professionals from institutions such as Tongji University and Harbin Institute of Technology. The CEA stated that the assessment aims to provide a scientific foundation for post-disaster reconstruction, disaster prevention, and mitigation efforts. The team has already completed disaster investigation and assessment tasks in Yangon, Bago, and Naypyidaw, assessing the earthquake's intensity and extent and offering emergency response and repair suggestions for damaged houses. Currently, the team is conducting investigations and evaluations in Mandalay.
A 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, resulting in a tragic loss of life and widespread injuries. Official data indicates that the earthquake has claimed 3,759 lives, injured 5,107 people, and left 114 individuals missing nationwide as of Tuesday.
In a separate incident, at least 11 members of the Indigenous Raramuri community, including both children and adults, were killed in a two-vehicle crash in northern Mexico. The accident occurred on the Guachochi-Yoquivo highway when a pickup truck carrying the victims was struck by another vehicle that crossed into its lane. Eight other individuals were injured in the collision. The victims were traveling from a municipal aid distribution event to the Somarachi community in Guachochi.
Authorities reported that the driver of the vehicle that caused the crash fled the scene, and armed individuals later arrived to remove the truck involved. Chihuahua Governor Maru Campos expressed condolences and stated that the state government is covering funeral expenses and providing support to the injured. Campos has instructed the Indigenous Communities Secretariat to assist the families and directed the state prosecutor to conduct a full investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
