Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has disclosed that a total of 1,192 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of cannabis, and 17.9 kilograms of gold bars were intercepted at various entry and exit points across the country as of June 2025.

According to him, the seizures were made by the Narcotics Control Commission at four major locations: Tema Port, Kotoka International Airport, the Paga Border, and Oyarifa.

He said the operations form part of broader efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and the illegal export of natural resources.

Although the minister did not provide specific details about arrests or ongoing investigations, he indicated that border security is being enhanced to prevent further illegal activities.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Monday, July 14, Muntaka stated: “The Narcotics Control Commission has intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and promote public health.

In that regard, the Commission has undertaken the following as of June 2025: Seized 1,192 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of cannabis and about 17.9 kilograms of gold bars at Tema Port, Kotoka International Airport, Paga Border, and Oyarifa, disrupting major trafficking operations.”

He further revealed that the Commission had ramped up enforcement activities in key communities across the country.

“The Narcotics Control Commission has also conducted seven drug swoops in Akosombo, Takoradi, and Madina and other areas, reducing street-level drug availability,” he added.

The minister emphasized that government remains committed to strengthening its institutions to safeguard public health and national security.
