On November 15, 1960, Redford and Lola welcomed their first daughter, Shauna Jean Redford. She studied at the University of Colorado Boulder, earning her degree in art in 1985.
That same year, she married journalist Eric Schlosser in a ceremony held at her parents' home in Provo Canyon, Utah. Ted Wilson, a former Salt Lake City mayor and Utah State Supreme Court judge, officiated the wedding.
Eric Schlosser, born on August 17, 1959, is a renowned American journalist and food writer. He is widely recognised for his impactful books Fast Food Nation (2001), Reefer Madness (2003), and Command and Control: Nuclear Weapons, the Damascus Accident, and the Illusion of Safety (2013). David James Redford, the second son of Redford and Lola, was born on May 5, 1962. Raised in New York, he spent summers at the family’s Utah home. As an adult, Jamie was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, a liver and bile duct disease.
After undergoing two liver transplants in 1993, he was inspired to create the James Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness, a non-profit promoting organ and tissue donation. In 1999, he furthered this cause with the documentary The Kindness of Strangers, which highlighted the stories of organ donors and recipients.
Jamie attended the University of Colorado Boulder, earning a creative writing and film degree. He later pursued a master's degree in literature at Northwestern University. His academic background led to a career in filmmaking, where he combined environmental and social causes with his passion for documentaries.
Jamie met his wife, Kyle, while at CU Boulder, and they married in June 1988. The couple had two children, Dylan and Lena, and settled in Marin County, California. In 2005, Jamie and his father co-founded The Redford Centre, a non-profit focused on filmmaking and environmental advocacy.
Tragically, on October 16, 2020, Kyle announced that Jamie had passed away from bile-duct cancer in his liver at their home. His cancer had been discovered in 2019 while he was awaiting another liver transplant.

Redford and Lola’s youngest child, Amy Hart Redford, was born on October 22, 1970. Growing up between New York and Utah, she attended the Dalton School and later moved to San Francisco, where she did theatre at San Francisco State University.
Amy went on to build a career in filmmaking, directing feature films, TV episodes, and music videos. Notable works include her 2008 film The Guitar and the music video for Jeff Buckley's Everyday People in 2016.
Amy was married to Mark Mann from 2000 to 2004. In 2008, she wed theatre director Matt August just six weeks before welcoming their first child. The couple had twins but later divorced. After living in New York City and Los Angeles, Amy settled in Salt Lake City, where she continues her filmmaking career and hosts the podcast Scrappy Broads.
Robert Redford’s grandchildren continue the family’s tradition of creativity and artistry, each with their unique path. Here’s a look at the members of Redford’s next generation:
Mica, the daughter of Shauna and Eric Schlosser works as a copywriter and illustrator at the New York creative studio Thirteensee Creative. Robert Redford's granddaughter earned a history degree from Middlebury College in 2014 and later completed master’s degrees in history from the University of Oxford and design from Central St. Martins.
Conor, born to Shauna and Eric Schlosser, is a producer at RadicalMedia in New York City. The 2015 graduate of Colby College has also worked at the Sundance Institute and the Food Network. His grandfather, Robert Redford, gave the commencement address at his graduation.

He is the eldest child of James and Kyle Redford. Dylan is a filmmaker based in San Rafael, California. Diagnosed with dyslexia at an early age, Dylan became the subject of his father’s 2012 documentary The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia.
He made headlines in 2020 when he convinced his grandfather to star in his film Omniboat: A Fast Boat Fantasia, which premiered at Sundance. Dylan also serves as co-chair of The Redford Centre, focusing on environmental justice through storytelling.
Lena is the younger daughter of James and Kyle Redford. She is an artist and filmmaker. She graduated from Vassar College in 2018 with a degree in media studies.
Lena has worked on several film projects, including lending her voice acting talents to a short in the Nature In Speaking series alongside her grandfather. Her short film Dear Maria was showcased at the Borscht Film Festival in 2019.
Eden is the daughter of Amy Redford and her ex-husband, Matt August. Born in 2008, she is the eldest of three girls and has inspired her mother, particularly when she encouraged her not to give up during difficult times.
Amy and Matt August’s twin daughters, born in 2010, are the younger siblings to Eden. Amy has often spoken about the rewards and challenges of raising her three daughters.
Unfortunately, Robert Redford's sons are both dead. Scott, his first son, tragically passed away at just two and a half months old in 1959 due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
James, his second son, died on October 16, 2020, after a battle with bile-duct cancer. James had previously undergone two liver transplants in 1993 due to primary sclerosing cholangitis, a liver disease.
Final word
Robert Redford’s children have each created their paths. Shauna Redford is in art and activism, and James Redford was a filmmaker and advocate focused on transplant awareness before his passing. Amy Redford works in filmmaking while raising a family.
