INEC To Deploy Over 30,000 Officials For Bye-Elections In 16 Constituencies

He stated that the vacancies were created as a result of deaths and court rulings that nullified certain election outcomes.

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to deploy over 30,000 electoral officials in the upcoming bye-elections across the country.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the announcement during a meeting with leaders of political parties held on Thursday, in Abuja.

He stated that the vacancies were created as a result of deaths and court rulings that nullified certain election outcomes.

The bye-elections will be conducted in 16 constituencies, comprising two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and nine state assembly seats.

According to Professor Yakubu, INEC will deploy 30,451 officials to conduct the polls, with over 3,553,659 registered voters expected to cast their ballots in 6,987 polling units.

However, he noted that elections will not be held in Khana II constituency in Rivers State due to a subsisting state of emergency, and in Talata Mafara South in Zamfara State, owing to ongoing court proceedings.
