INEC Gears Up: Nationwide Voter Registration Resumes Amid Low Turnout Concerns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the second phase of its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. This resumption follows the conclusion of the first phase, which formally ended on December 10, 2025. The initial online pre-registration for the exercise commenced on August 18, 2025, with physical registration at designated centres across the country rolling out on August 25, 2025.
During the first phase of the CVR, a total of 9,891,801 Nigerians began the online pre-registration process. By November 28, 2025, 2,572,054 registrations were fully completed nationwide. This figure includes 1,503,832 completed online registrations and 1,068,222 registrations concluded through physical enrolment. The interval between these two phases was utilized by the Commission to carry out statutory activities required by law. This included the display of the register of voters for claims and objections, which was held from December 15 to 21, 2025, at local government area offices where the CVR exercise was conducted, in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022.
