Independent Music Awards Unveil 2026 Nominees: Fcukers Dominate the List!
The 2026 Independent Music Awards shortlist has been revealed, with New York electronic duo Fcukers leading all nominees with three nods. Set to take place on September 22 at London's Roundhouse, the ceremony celebrates the best of the U.K.'s independent music scene, highlighting diverse talent and innovative labels.
The Association of Independent Music (AIM) has unveiled the initial shortlist for its 2026 Independent Music Awards, set to celebrate the vibrant U.K. independent music community. The ceremony will take place on September 22, 2026, at London’s iconic Roundhouse, honoring a diverse array of indie musicians, labels, companies, and creators across numerous categories.
New York-based electronic duo Fcukers leads all nominees with an impressive three nods. Their nominations include Best Independent Album for 'Ö' (Ninja Tune), Best Independent Track for “L.U.C.K.Y.,” and recognition in the Independent Breakthrough category. Following closely with two nominations each are Jalen Ngonda (Daptone Records), Jim Legxacy (XL Recordings), Jorja Smith (FAMM), Nova Twins (Marshall Records), Romy (XL Recordings), and Tiana Major9 (+1 Records).
Among the labels, Young stands out with five nominations across all categories, while XL Recordings and Ninja Tune each secured four. FAMM and Marshall Records both earned three nominations, highlighting their significant contributions to the independent scene. The highly anticipated Best Independent Album category features a competitive lineup including BICEP for 'TAKKUUK (Original Soundtrack)' (Ninja Tune, EarthSonic), Blawan for 'SickElixir' (XL Recordings), Fcukers for 'Ö' (Ninja Tune), Geese for 'Getting Killed' (Partisan Records), Mitski for 'Nothing’s About to Happen to Me' (Dead Oceans), Nova Twins for 'Parasites & Butterflies' (Marshall Records), Prostitute for 'Attempted Martyr' (Mute), Robyn for 'Sexistential' (Young / Konichiwa), SCALER for 'Endlessly' (Black Acre), and Thundercat for 'Distracted' (Brainfeeder).
Gee Davy, CEO of AIM, expressed excitement about the initial nominee list, stating that it showcases the broad spectrum of success and authenticity flowing from the U.K.’s independent music community. Davy emphasized that the array of artists and genres demonstrates that the independent music sector remains the most exciting, authentic, and groundbreaking place in the industry. She also noted the awards' fresh new look and feel, reflecting the consistent evolution of the independent music sector, and anticipates sharing more new features at the ceremony. Additional categories and nominations, including publicly voted categories like Best Live Performer and Best Independent Record Store, will be announced in the coming months, with submissions currently open on the Independent Music Awards website.
Providing context from the previous year, the 2025 ceremony saw Fontaines D.C. win Best Independent Album for 'Romance,' Ezra Collective claim Best Independent Track for “God Gave Me Feet for Dancing,” and XL Recordings recognized as Best Independent Label. DJ and curator Giles Peterson received the Outstanding Contribution to Music award, and Throbbing Gristle member Cosey Fanni Tutti was honored with the Innovator Prize.
