Imo Political Turmoil: ADC Chairmen Thwart Hijack Attempt

Local government chairmen of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Owerri zone have sounded a strong alarm, warning against what they describe as attempts by certain political actors to unlawfully seize control of the party's structure within the zone. They have unequivocally declared their intent to resist any and all efforts to hijack and subvert the established party framework.
This declaration was formalized in a communiqué issued by the chairmen, who accused unidentified political figures of orchestrating a plot to impose illegal leadership and undermine the foundational constitution of the ADC. The communiqué cautioned that such maneuvers would be met with “decisive and lawful resistance,” emphasizing the seriousness with which these actions are being perceived.
The statement was jointly signed by seven local government area (LGA) chairmen, underscoring the collective stance against these alleged infringements. These signatories include Dr. Oparaogu Jonathan (Owerri West), Hon. Oscar Obinna (Ngor Okpala), Hon. Ohahu Charles (Owerri North), Dr. Nwagwuaji Fidelis (Aboh Mbaise), Chief Onuoha Augustine (Ezinihitte Mbaise), Engr. Uhuogbu Ferdinand (Mbaitoli), and Chief Akumonye Francis (Ikeduru).
The chairmen vehemently rejected what they termed “brazen subversion,” asserting that no fabricated list concocted outside the official party framework would receive any recognition. They further stressed the paramount importance of the ADC constitution, designating it as the supreme guiding document for all party activities. Any violation of this constitution, they warned, would be considered a direct assault on the collective will of the party's members.
Reaffirming their legitimate authority, the chairmen insisted that they remain the sole authentic leaders of the ADC in their respective LGAs. “We hold our mandate directly from the people and shall not surrender it to impostors,” their statement declared, reinforcing their commitment to their positions and responsibilities.
The communiqué urged all party members, supporters, and stakeholders to maintain vigilance and promptly report any clandestine activities or fraudulent claims to the relevant authorities. While expressing an openness to harmonization processes that genuinely promote peace and inclusivity within the party, the chairmen made it clear that any such process must be firmly rooted in principles of fairness, justice, and due consultation with the legitimate party structures.
