Imo Police Unleash Massive Crackdown: Nearly 1,000 Suspects Arrested, Huge Arsenal Recovered in Six Months

The Imo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, has reported significant successes in its fight against crime over the past six months. The Command announced the arrest of a staggering 928 criminal suspects involved in a wide range of offenses, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and child trafficking. These proactive efforts have led to a substantial reduction in criminal activities across the state.
During the period under review, the Command achieved notable recoveries, confiscating 673 live cartridges, 17 firearms, 72 rounds of ammunition, and 9 stolen motorcycles. Beyond these, other exhibits seized included Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), charms, laptops, counterfeit currency, and various hard drugs, demonstrating the breadth of their operations against organized crime.
A critical aspect of the Command's success has been its dedicated rescue operations. Police operatives successfully rescued nine kidnapped victims and seven stolen children, all of whom have since been safely reunited with their respective families. This highlights the Command's commitment to protecting the vulnerable and ensuring public safety.
A major breakthrough for the Command was the apprehension of six notorious kidnap suspects identified as Chijioke Nwakaudu, Chibuike Ajaere, Richard Ugochukwu, Chuka Anene, Christian Emekwe, and Emeka Emezume. These individuals were known to have terrorized communities in both Imo and Anambra States. Their arrest led to further significant recoveries in Obosi, Anambra State, which included seven AK-47 rifles, nine pump-action guns, four pistols, 250 rounds of GPMG ammunition, 910 cartridges, and multiple bags of suspected hard drugs.
The arrested suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in numerous kidnappings. Among their admitted crimes was the abduction of 25-year-old Ugochukwu Favour Nwachinemere of Ikembara, Ikeduru LGA, for which a ransom of N5 million was paid. They also confessed to the abduction of Mr. Ikechukwu. Commissioner Danjuma lauded the professionalism and dedication of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for these remarkable achievements.
In his address to journalists at the Command Headquarters in Owerri, CP Danjuma urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to the police. He emphasized that sustained public cooperation is vital in the ongoing battle against crime and other anti-social vices, reaffirming the Command's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and maintaining peace for all residents across Imo State.
