IMD issues orange, yellow alert till Sunday

Kochi: The IMD issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for Kerala until Sunday. An orange alert was issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod on Wednesday, while Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur are on alert on Thursday.

Four districts, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod, are on orange alert on Friday.A yellow alert was issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Tuesday, while Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad are on alert on Wednesday. Nine districts, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod, are on alert on Thursday.

Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram are on alert for heavy rainfall on Friday.Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50kmph, gusting to 60kmph, is likely to prevail along and off Kerala coasts until Friday. Fishermen were warned to stay off these areas.Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over central parts of north Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood, a well-marked low-pressure area formed over northeast Rajasthan and adjoining northwest Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

It is likely to move further slowly west-northwestwards across Rajasthan during the next two days.There is a warning for open seas, with squally wind speeds reaching 45-55kmph, gusting to 65kmph, likely to prevail in most parts of the west-central Arabian Sea and adjoining areas, some parts of the east-central Arabian Sea, northern parts of the southwest Arabian Sea, along and off the south Tamil Nadu coast, over the Gulf of Mannar, and the Comorin area.
