Iheanacho Smashes Record Goal, Earns High Praise From Ex-Liverpool Boss!

Super Eagles and Celtic striker Kelechi Iheanacho showcased his exceptional form by scoring an equalizer for Celtic in their UEFA Europa League clash against Serbian side FK Crvena Zvezda. The 28-year-old forward, who was introduced as a substitute at the start of the second half, wasted no time in making a significant impact, finding the back of the net just ten minutes later to level the score at the Stadion Rajko Mitić.

Iheanacho's crucial goal underscored his consistent performance since his move to Scotland, marking his involvement in a goal in every game he has played for Celtic. This impressive streak highlights his immediate adaptation and contribution to the team's attacking prowess, culminating in his first European goal for the one-time UEFA Champions League winners.

Following the match, former Liverpool coach and current Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, was effusive in his praise for Iheanacho's decisive contribution. Rodgers commended the player for his "outstanding" goal and for providing a "great platform" for the team's improved performance in the second half. Rodgers acknowledged that the team was not aggressive enough in their play during the first half, characterized by loose passing, but highlighted a significant turnaround after the break.

Rodgers specifically lauded Iheanacho's ability to hold the ball and progress play centrally, an essential quality that helped Celtic advance up the pitch more effectively. He further praised the team's strong mentality, noting how they stood firm and maintained their task even after the opposition equalized and the crowd rallied. Securing a valuable point away from a difficult venue was considered a positive "first step" in the competition, emphasizing the importance of not losing the game.

Kelechi Iheanacho himself expressed immense satisfaction with his performance and the outcome. "It felt really great, playing my first European competition with Celtic. I’m happy to get a goal for the team," the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner stated, as revealed on Celtic's official website. He also acknowledged the "great atmosphere" and looked forward to securing "more points in the future."

Celtic, who are currently at the top of the Scottish domestic league, will now shift their focus to their upcoming SPFL home game against Hibernian on Saturday, aiming to continue their strong domestic campaign alongside their European endeavours.
