U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended approximately 30,000 illegal aliens in June, marking the highest number of interior deportations recorded by the agency in at least five years. This data was obtained and reported by NBC News.

The June arrests show a rise compared to May, when ICE detained over 24,000 individuals. The figures reflect a growing crackdown on illegal immigration within the interior of the United States.

NBC News’ report includes both removal and deportation statistics but does not clearly separate the two categories. Deportations generally refer to formal removals from inside the country, while removals can include turnbacks at the border.

Recent numbers indicate that more than 18,000 illegal aliens were either deported by ICE agents inside the U.S. or turned away by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers while trying to enter illegally. However, the exact count of interior deportations specifically during the Trump administration remains unavailable.

The federal government claims that over 250,000 illegal aliens have been removed since the administration took office. This total includes both interior deportations and border turnbacks, without differentiating between the two.

The number of deportations is expected to rise significantly due to recent legislation dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill.” This bill will boost ICE funding from $2 billion to more than $70 billion, Trending Politics reported.

The funding increase includes $45 billion to expand detention facilities and $30 billion to hire more immigration enforcement agents. These expansions are anticipated to greatly increase the government’s capacity for interior deportations.

Tom Homan, the White House border czar, stated Monday that ICE aims to reach a goal of 7,000 deportations daily. If maintained, this rate would result in 1.2 million arrests by the end of the year.

Homan emphasized the necessity of the high deportation target, noting that 3,000 deportations per day are insufficient given the number of illegal aliens released into the country. He urged critics to “do the math” on the administration’s deportation needs.

Beyond increasing deportation efforts, the administration has invested in encouraging illegal aliens to self-deport voluntarily. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is offering to cover return flight costs for those who choose to leave.

Additionally, DHS has arranged programs allowing illegal aliens to retain some of their earned wages if they voluntarily return home using the “CBP Home” app. This app replaced the previous “CBP One” platform.

The CBP Home app now assists illegal aliens in scheduling their return trips to their countries of origin. Under the Biden administration, the earlier version of this app was used by immigrants to arrange illegal entries into the United States.

According to a recent Washington Post analysis, over one million immigrants and illegal aliens have either been deported or left the U.S. voluntarily since President Trump resumed office in January.

The administration’s combined strategy of ramping up interior deportations and promoting self-deportation aims to significantly reduce the illegal immigrant population nationwide.

Officials believe that with the enhanced funding and resources, the U.S. will see a record surge in deportations and removals through the remainder of the year.

This intensified enforcement is a central pillar of the current administration’s immigration policy, focusing heavily on interior actions beyond the border.

The new approach signals a shift towards stricter immigration control and increased federal involvement in apprehending and removing illegal aliens throughout the country.
