"I Wasn't Flown Abroad, I'm Fine, Fully Active" - Wike Clears Air On Health Status

Published 9 hours ago2 minute read

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked rumours suggesting he is battling health issues, insisting that he is in excellent condition.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, addressed the speculations during an interview on Friday, where he described the reports as politically motivated and baseless.

Reacting to claims that he collapsed at a Presidential Villa event in April and was flown abroad for emergency treatment, Wike said such rumours were aimed at distracting the public from pressing issues.

“As I’m talking to you, do I look like somebody that is sick? Looking at me, will you think I’m above 30 years? I’m very well,” he said confidently.

The Minister’s public appearance just two days after the alleged incident during a Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa  appeared to contradict the claims, as Wike looked vibrant and interacted freely with dignitaries.

His media aide, Lere Olayinka, had also earlier dismissed the reports, affirming that Wike was neither ill nor flown out of the country for medical attention.

Wike suggested that the rumours were deliberately spread to divert attention from recent revelations by former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, regarding an explosion at the state’s House of Assembly.

Addressing a separate topic during the interview, Wike responded to a question about grooming his son for politics with a rhetorical counter: “What’s wrong with that?”
