I'll use my 'Asiwaju of Akure' title to attract economic development, unite the people, says Abegunde

Executive Director, Corporate Services, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sunday Ifedayo Abegunde, has assured the people of Akure that he would use his connection to attract and execute developmental projects that would have direct bearing on the lives of the natives of the ancient town.
Abegunde, an erstwhile Secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG), stated this on Friday, shortly after he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of ‘Asiwaju of Akureland’ alongside his wife, Jumoke Abegunde as ‘Yeye Asiwaju of Akureland’ by the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi.
The event also coincided with his 70th birthday anniversary.
The honour, bestowed on Abegunde popularly known as Abena, at the palace of the Deji of Akure amid pomp and pageantry, was in recognition of his contributions, and roles in ensuring development through provisions of basic amenities, financial support and empowerment to people in several communities of Akure land.
Speaking after bagging the title, Mr Abegunde promised to use the chieftaincy title in restoring the lost glory of Akure kingdom and cementing the existing relationship between the natives of the ancient town to attract economic growth and development.
He also appreciated Oba Aladelusi for recognising him with the chieftaincy title, saying the honour would make him do more for the people of the town, especially in bringing growth to the community.
“This honour is a great recognition that will surely spur me to continue to do good for the people, do good things for Akure Kingdom. It would also make me continue to do good for our revered Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi,” he said.
“I thank the Deji of Akure land and elders of the community for deeming it fit to choose me as the Asiwaju of Akure. I will continue to support him and support Akure land and the Akure people for growth and development,” he said.
While calling for support from both elders and leaders of the community, Abegunde cautioned against seeing his new title as political, adding that his target is to see a thriving Akure that will attract investors to boost its economy, trade and investment.
He said: “So, I won’t play politics with the title. Here in Akure, we don’t play politics with the development of Akure. So, as the Asiwaju of Akure, I would support the kabiyesi.
