In an era where the winds of change swept across the land, the Akure kingdom embarked upon a noble quest to forge a new path, one that honored its storied past while embracing the boundless potential of a brighter future.

Amidst this transformative moment, the people sought a beacon of inspiration: an individual whose wisdom, courage, and concern towards their collective well-being would steer them towards a new direction, marked by peace and progress. As murmurs of admiration grew into a resounding chorus of acclamation, the Deji-in-Council recognized a distinguished figure whose spirit of unity and purpose would carry the weight of their aspirations and hopes.

They found a man who would shepherd the kingdom towards a future where dreams take flight, and the land of Akure ascends to unparalleled heights. The luminary they had sought was within their midst all along.

With eager anticipation and immense pride, the Deji of  Akure Land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo will install one of its most illustrious sons as Asiwaju of Akure land.

The choice of Honourable Ifedayo Abegunde (Abena) is a deliberate decision of the council to prioritize leadership rooted in humility and compassion, an invitation to redefine the essence of leadership and encourage leaders everywhere to reflect upon the values and qualities that truly matter.

The selection of leaders for any community carries profound and far-reaching implications, shaping not only the trajectory of its development but also influencing how leaders address challenges and execute their duties. This, in turn, determines the quality of governance and the well-being of members of the community.

Thus, the stage is set for a historic moment. On June 27th, 2025, the Deji of  Akure Land and the Deji-In-Council  will invite Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde (Abena) to receive the title of Asiwaju of Akure land, entrusting him with the responsibility of guiding the community towards new horizons of development and prosperity.

On this day, Abena will stand before his people for the conferment of this honor, and together, they will embark on a shared journey to etch a new chapter in history, united in their pursuit of progress and the promise of a shared destiny.

Born and raised in the heart of Akure land, Abena has long walked among his people, a steadfast presence in every triumph and adversity. From the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly, where he represented the Akure federal constituency for eight impactful years, to the crucial role of Secretary to the Government of Ondo State, Abena has consistently demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the firmament of progress and the welfare of others. Today, he continues this noble mission as the representative of Ondo State in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), ensuring that the interests of Ondo State remain at the forefront of national development.

As we gather to confer upon him the revered title of Asiwaju of Akure land, the Deji-in-Council acknowledges not only his distinguished career that has led him to this moment but also the promise of a brighter future under his visionary leadership.

In embracing this new role, Abena accepts the weight of responsibility and the privilege of serving his community, pledging his wisdom and fortitude to champion initiatives that will bring enduring progress to Akure land and unite its sons and daughters in pursuit of collective prosperity.

As fate would have it, the cosmos aligns to confer the esteemed titles of Asiwaju of Akure land upon Abena and Eye Asiwaju upon his beloved wife, Jumoke Abegunde (Jummy). This hallowed occasion allows us to honour not only their noble achievements but also the indomitable spirit and quiet strength that have shaped their extraordinary journey together.

Abena and Jummy have profoundly impacted vulnerable community members through their benevolence, implementing various social interventions that have uplifted countless lives and reshaped the fabric of our society.

The title of Asiwaju signifies more than just a recognition of past accomplishments. It represents a call to continue leadership and service, embodying the highest values of visionary guidance, integrity, and genuine concern for the economic and social development of our community. As Chief Ayo Ajayi (Headmaster), a respected community leader, states, “The investiture of Abena as Asiwaju of Akure land marks a watershed moment, ushering in a new era of leadership that will propel collective progress and innovative problem-solving.”

As the wheels of time bring us to the auspicious date of June 28th, 2025, a gathering of friends and political associates will converge upon Akure, the vibrant heart of Ondo state, to honour Abena and his cherished family. This significant occasion marks not only the conferment of a prestigious title but also a platinum birthday – a glorious tapestry woven  from seven decades of rich experiences, profound lessons, and invaluable wisdom.

This milestone occasion is an opportunity to express our sincerest appreciation for his outstanding contributions and to extend our warmest wishes for a joyous celebration filled with love, happiness, and unforgettable memories.

May the example set by Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde (Abena) inspire us all to lead purpose-driven lives, leaving an indelible and positive impact on the world around us. As we stand united in our shared vision for a prosperous future, let us remember that the strength of our community lies in the spirit of unity and the dedication of leaders like Abena .
