I gave my baby Coca-Cola, not 'Action Bitters' - Woman in viral video
The woman seen in a viral video feeding a baby from a sachet believed to contain an alcoholic drink has claimed it was filled with Coca-Cola, not Action Bitters, as widely assumed.
The Nigeria Police Force launched an investigation last week after the video circulated online with a caption suggesting the drink was given “every night just for her to sleep,” sparking outrage across social media platforms.
In a new video, the unidentified woman said the clip was staged for entertainment purposes. She explained that she had emptied and washed an Action Bitters sachet, then refilled it with Coca-Cola before filming.
“About the video I posted earlier, that is not Action Bitters. It is Coke. I poured Coke into the sachet,” she said. “To be sincere, it was Coke I poured into the Action Bitters sachet. I even have a video on my phone showing when I was doing it.”
She described the incident as a misguided attempt to generate online engagement but admitted it had “backfired”.
The woman emphasised that her baby is just five months old and denied ever giving the child any alcoholic substances.
“I would never give her Action Bitters. I am not that kind of mother. I do not even take it myself,” she added.
The woman appealed for public forgiveness, stating, “We are begging Nigerians, please forgive us.” The police have yet to release an official update on the investigation.
