Hyundai Shakes Up EV Market with Ioniq 3: 365-Mile Range & Budget Price Incoming!

Hyundai is poised to unveil a new small electric vehicle (EV), the Ioniq 3, as a nearly production-ready concept at the Munich motor show in September, with manufacturing slated to commence early next year. This new addition to Hyundai's expanding EV lineup is strategically positioned between the existing Inster and Kona EVs. The decision to name it Ioniq 3 underscores its reliance on the company's most advanced EV platform and its integration of extensive connected technology, signaling a sophisticated and digital-forward approach.
The Ioniq 3 is designed with front-wheel drive and is expected to offer a choice of two battery capacities: 58.3kWh or 81.4kWh. These battery options will provide estimated WLTP ranges of approximately 260 miles and 365 miles, respectively. Performance is also a key focus, with the vehicle projected to achieve a 0-62mph acceleration time in under eight seconds. It will utilize a 400V electrical system, which is more cost-effective and provides slightly slower charging compared to the 800V setups found in its larger siblings, the Ioniq 5, 6, and 9. Notably, the Ioniq 3 shares a close relation with sister company Kia's EV3.
A significant aspect of the Ioniq 3's appeal is its advanced digital and connectivity features. It will support Apple's CarPlay Ultra, allowing for extensive driver customization of the interface. Beyond the Apple skin, the native interface will offer enhanced configuration options for design and will link to new synthesized EV sound effects. Hyundai is making a substantial bet on 'software-defined vehicles,' enabling the Ioniq 3 to receive upgrades throughout its lifecycle. Furthermore, owners will have the flexibility to download optional features, akin to phone applications, which also allows used-car buyers the opportunity to re-spec the vehicle to their preferences. Hyundai's proprietary operating system, Pleos, is at the heart of this, developed with input from several major digital corporations.
From a market strategy perspective, Hyundai's European boss, Xavier Martinet, highlighted that the Ioniq brand has become the second most recognized EV brand, trailing only Tesla. With the Ioniq 5, 6, and 9 bolstering Hyundai's market position and driving up its average selling price, Martinet aims to strengthen its share in the more affordable EV segments. The Ioniq 3, alongside the Inster, is intended to provide
