How to take part in Nintendo's mysterious Switch 2 playtest
Nintendo is giving Switch 2 fans another chance to try out their mysterious online game later this month.
Last year, Nintendo invited select Switch users to take part in a secret online test of what appeared to be a new game. Chosen individuals were forbidden from talking about the mysterious project but a few details about the event did make their way online.
According to reports, the playtest was for a massively multiplayer online experience that encouraged users to work together to develop a functioning community on a resource-rich planet. Leaked documents said players were aiming “to fully develop a massive, expansive planet by utilising creativity and farmed resources”.
“As you progress across the planet, you’ll discover new lands, enemies and resources that will become essential to your journey,” the documents added (via VGC). At the time, fans believed the project would have something to do with the launch of the Switch 2 but nothing like the experience has been revealed for Nintendo’s new console.
This is what the select public test is for on Wed. No, I’m not in it. This is the new info learned just now from the app itself. Which launches but can’t be played yet.

However this weekend, Nintendo are once again offering fans the chance to take part in a playtest for their new mysterious game.
“We will perform another test in the Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program. From 8:00 AM PT on July 21st, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members can apply to participate on a first-come, first-served basis,” reads the announcement. Nintendo then confirmed the test would be for the “same service” they tested in October 2024.
