Horror in Ondo: Gunmen Abduct Health Worker, Union Vows Protest

Ayodeji Akesinro, a staff member of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo, Ondo State, and a pastor, has been abducted by gunmen. The distressing incident occurred around 7 pm on Thursday, August 28, 2025, when Akesinro was reportedly taken from his residence at Upenme, Owo Local Government Area.
The abduction has been confirmed by leaders of the National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), under which Akesinro serves as a senior labour leader. In a statement circulated among its members on Friday, the union expressed profound shock and distress, bringing to attention the kidnapping of their colleague and member. The statement emphasized the union's strong advocacy for the welfare and security of its members, demanding the immediate and safe release of Pastor Akesinro.
In light of this unfortunate event, NUAHP hinted at the possibility of declaring a day of protest in Owo if the situation is not promptly addressed. Furthermore, the union called for enhanced security measures in Owo and its environs, urging collaborative efforts with security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators. Their declaration, "Injury to one is injury to all. Solidarity forever!" underscored their firm commitment to their colleague.
Adebowale Lawal, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo, confirmed the incident, assuring the public that all necessary actions are being taken to ensure the victim's safe return and the arrest of those responsible. He stated that police operatives, in conjunction with local hunters, are actively working to rescue Akesinro. Commissioner Lawal emphasized efforts to "nip kidnapping in the bud" and affirmed collaboration with sister security agencies, noting that the Area Commander, DPO, and police personnel in the jurisdiction thoroughly combed the bush throughout the night.
