Horror Crash: Rivers United Bus Involved in Ghastly Accident, Players Injured
Players and officials of the Rivers United football club were involved in a road accident on Thursday, sustaining injuries while en route to Awka, Anambra State. The incident occurred as the Nigeria Premier Football League side was traveling for their President’s Cup round of 16 fixture against Nasarawa United.
The club officially confirmed the accident, stating it took place along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road, on the outskirts of Port Harcourt, shortly after the team departed from its camp. Charles Mayuku, the Media Officer for Rivers United, provided details, confirming that some players and officials sustained minor injuries.
Crucially, Mayuku emphasized that there were no fatalities or life-threatening injuries reported from the crash. He added that all affected individuals are currently receiving appropriate medical attention and are in stable condition. The club has expressed gratitude for the concern and prayers received from supporters and the broader football community, assuring that further updates on the team’s travel plans and the status of the Federation Cup fixture will be provided in due course.
In their statement, the club reiterated their utmost priority for the safety, health, and well-being of their players and officials, reinforcing the commitment to their care following the unfortunate event.
