Hollywood Mourns: Emmy-Nominated 'Fairly OddParents' Composer Guy Moon Passes Away at 63

Guy Moon, the acclaimed composer behind the music for numerous animated television series, including Nickelodeon’s beloved, The Fairly OddParents, passed away on January 8 in Los Angeles as a result of a traffic collision. He was 63 years old. His family announced his death on January 10 via a Facebook post, detailing that Moon was tragically struck by a vehicle while riding his Vespa scooter in the Wilmington neighborhood, succumbing to traumatic injuries at the scene.
Moon was most famously recognized for his extensive contributions to The Fairly OddParents, an animated series chronicling the adventures of Timmy Turner. He served as the show’s composer from 2001 to 2017, scoring over 150 episodes according to IMDb. His exceptional work on the series garnered him four Primetime Emmy nominations for outstanding music and lyrics between 2002 and 2004. He collaborated with lyricists, Butch Hartman and Steve Marmel, on all four nominated songs, with Scott Fellows also joining them on one occasion.
Beyond his Emmy recognition, Moon received significant industry accolades for his musical prowess. He won three consecutive BMI Cable Awards at the BMI Film & TV Awards from 2002 to 2004 for his compositions on The Fairly OddParents, sharing these honors with Hartman and Ron Jones. In 2007, he was further recognized with an Annie Award for music in a television production, also for his work on the hit Nickelodeon show.
Born and raised in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Moon was an alumnus of the University of Arizona School of Music. Inspired by the legendary musician, Chick Corea, Moon embarked on his illustrious career in the 1980s. His collaborations extended to other projects with The Fairly OddParents creator, Butch Hartman, including Danny Phantom and T.U.F.F. Puppy. His diverse credits also encompassed live-action films such as The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), A Very Brady Sequel (1996), Come on Get Happy: The Partridge Family Story (1999), and the television movie A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!(2011). His final credited work as a composer was for The Artist, a series from the streaming service The Network, in 2025.
Guy Moon is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Moon; his three adult children, daughters Chelsea and Savannah, and son Dusty; his parents; two older sisters; and seven grandchildren, with an eighth grandchild on the way. His family expressed their intent to celebrate Moon’s life with a memorial in Los Angeles on February 7, a date that would have marked the composer’s 64th birthday. This remembrance will be followed by a second ceremony in Wisconsin at a later, unspecified date.
