Hollywood Heartbreak: Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's 19-Year Marriage Crumbles

Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman and country music superstar Keith Urban have reportedly separated after 19 years of marriage, with sources indicating they have been living apart since the beginning of summer. Keith Urban, 57, is said to have moved out of the family home, purchasing his own residence in Nashville. Nicole Kidman, 58, has allegedly been caring for their two children while making efforts to preserve the marriage.
The couple's journey began at the 2005 G’Day USA Gala, followed by their wedding in 2006 at St. Patrick’s Estate in Sydney, Australia. Nicole recounted her initial strong crush on Keith, noting he didn’t call for four months. Conversely, Keith has described their union as profoundly transformative, stating to CBS News in 2016 that meeting Nicole was not merely “life-changing” but “life-beginning.”
Early in their marriage, Keith entered the Betty Ford Center for alcohol addiction treatment, an intervention orchestrated by Nicole. He has credited her with saving his life, calling himself “very, very blessed” in a 2014 Rolling Stone interview. Following his three-month rehabilitation, the couple settled in Nashville and expanded their family with daughters Sunday Rose in 2008, and Faith in 2010 via gestational surrogacy. Nicole was previously married to actor Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, with whom she adopted two children, Bella and Connor.
Reports suggest the separation stems from the demands of their respective careers and a declining sense of intimacy. Insiders revealed that Keith initiated the separation due to unhappiness, feeling the “intimacy isn’t there” and they were simply “going through the motions.” Nicole was reportedly “blindsided” by his decision. However, there remains a possibility of reconciliation, with friends suggesting they may work on their relationship over the upcoming Christmas period and Keith's birthday.
Since the split became public, Nicole and their children have been staying in Nashville, striving to maintain family stability. Meanwhile, Keith has been on his High and Alive World Tour since May. The couple's growing time apart, particularly following the death of Kidman’s mother last September, has also been cited as a contributing factor. They reportedly make an effort to speak daily when separated, yet public appearances together have been absent since early this year, and Keith notably cut short a radio interview in July when asked about Nicole’s film roles.
Nicole Kidman has openly shared her views on marriage, telling the cast of her Netflix series The Perfect Couple in September 2024, “There’s no perfect anything. Anything that’s presented as perfect… forget it.” Despite the separation, both Nicole and Keith are said to be supporting each other privately. Keith recently shared with Kelly Clarkson that he values Nicole’s feedback on his music, stating, “What I’ve learned is when I play her something, I’m obviously interested in her reaction, but I’m also really interested in how I feel when I’m playing it for her or anybody else. I’ve learned to trust my reaction much more.”
