Karnataka, India - April 15, 2025 A daring temple theft has left the local community shocked, as over 33lbs (15 kg) of silver ornaments and ritual items were stolen from a Sai Baba temple in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident occurred in Sai Katta, Kodibagh, Karwar, Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka on April 15. The visuals from the spot show two intruders stealing from the Sai Baba temple, a silver shield, along with other silver objects, has been stolen by the thieves According to reports, the two unidentified individuals allegedly broke the lock of the main entrance at around 3 a.m. and stole silver items weighing over 15 kilograms, estimated to be worth $14,040 (₹12 lakh). Among the stolen items were a silver crown, shield, footstool, sandals, umbrella, and other valuable utensils used for religious rituals. CCTV footage from the temple captured the suspects in the act, providing crucial leads for the investigation. A grand anniversary celebration had taken place at the Sai temple on April 10. Additionally, a cricket tournament was organized on the ground opposite the temple on Sunday and Monday, with the final match concluding late on Monday night. Organizers reportedly dispersed around 2 a.m., after which the thieves are believed to have entered the temple. Forensic and fingerprint experts later arrived at the scene and carried out an investigation. Officials from Karwar City Police Station promptly arrived at the scene after being informed, carried out a preliminary investigation, and registered a formal complaint. While initial suspicion pointed to the involvement of two thieves who fled with the valuables, a significant development emerged during the probe. The Vasco Railway Police reportedly seized a silver umbrella believed to belong to the temple, indicating a possible breakthrough in the case. The investigation is ongoing to trace the culprits and recover the remaining stolen items.
