Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, July 15, lawyer Dr Bernard Kofi Asamoah confirmed that the bail application had been rejected but insisted that the legal process was far from over.
“We wanted bail pending appeal, and the court did not grant it. The court has given an order that the Circuit Court furnish the court with all the processes needed for the appeal. We will continue the appeal process,” Dr. Asamoah stated.
The bail request was filed after Nana Agradaa was handed a 15-year custodial sentence on July 3 by an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Evelyn Asamoah. She was found guilty on charges of defrauding by false pretences and engaging in charlatanic advertisement.
Her legal team argues that the trial was marred by procedural flaws and judicial bias, and they maintain that the sentence was both harsh and unjust. On July 7, lead counsel Richard Asare Baffour confirmed that a formal petition had been filed with the High Court, seeking to overturn the conviction and sentence.
Despite the High Court’s latest ruling, Dr Asamoah reiterated the defence team’s determination to continue fighting for their client.
The former traditional priestess-turned-evangelist has remained in custody since her sentencing earlier this month.
