Aston Martin is set to unleash a sonic and performance marvel with its 2027 Valen, a multi-million-dollar supercar designed to redefine the high-echelon automotive experience. In an era where electric vehicles deliver immense, easily accessible power, the Valen stands out by exploiting an area where EVs often fall short: sound. Priced at $2 million, this V-12-powered beast is not only engineered to be lighter and more agile but also to produce an absolutely "nasty" auditory signature that sets it apart.
At the heart of the Valen is a highly massaged version of Aston Martin’s 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 engine, derived from the acclaimed Aston Martin Vanquish. This formidable powerplant delivers an astounding 838 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, making the Valen the most powerful front-engine car on the market from a major manufacturer. It also claims the title of the most powerful front-engined V-12 supercar in the brand’s 113-year history. Such immense power translates into blistering performance, with Aston Martin quoting a 0-60 mph time of 3.0 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 214 mph.
The Valen is a low-volume production model, with only 150 copies slated for worldwide release, meticulously crafted by the automaker’s Q by Aston Martin team and further engineered by the newly established Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) department. Its record-setting power is merely one facet of its comprehensive engineering. The car benefits from Aston Martin’s all-new electrical architecture and technology platform, alongside significant enhancements to its drivetrain, engine, braking system, chassis layout, and transmission. Alex Long, managing director of SVO Aston Martin Lagonda, describes the Valen as a “much deeper and more radical” car than its predecessors.
A relentless pursuit of lightness defines much of the Valen’s design. Through extensive use of titanium, carbon fiber, and aluminum, the vehicle achieves a weight reduction of over 240 pounds compared to Aston Martin’s existing V-12 platform. Standard magnesium wheels contribute further to this weight saving. An optional lightweight pack shaves an additional 37 pounds, incorporating suspension arms and knuckles machined from solid aluminum, along with titanium chassis bolts, pushing the boundaries of performance-oriented weight optimization.
Engineers have also focused intently on maximizing the Valen’s handling prowess, particularly for hardcore track performance. It features a solid-mounted rear subframe and advanced Bilstein DTX semi-active dampers. A strong emphasis on front and rear lateral stiffness minimizes roll and pitch movements, enhancing stability and control. The steering system has been meticulously calibrated for maximum agility and responsiveness, especially off-center, ensuring the Valen steers and maneuvers with the feel of a significantly lighter and shorter car.
This razor-sharp responsiveness extends to the braking and transmission systems. The brake booster maintains a firm pedal travel, allowing drivers precise modulation of the carbon-ceramic brakes. For the eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, sharper shift strategies have been directly adopted from the automaker’s successful Vantage GT4 program, optimizing gear changes for peak performance and driver engagement.
