Hawks Trade Risacher for McCollum in Major Roster Shake-Up

There’s a noticeable shift happening in Atlanta.
Zaccharie Risacher, the Hawks’ 2024 first-round pick, was left out of the starting lineup Sunday — just the third time in his 120-game career.
Instead, 13-year veteran CJ McCollum stepped into the starting five alongside Jalen Johnson, Onyeka Okongwu, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Dyson Daniels.
The result? A 115–104 win over the Brooklyn Nets — and a lineup that looked sharp when it mattered most.
Before the Hawks’ upcoming matchup against the Washington Wizards, Risacher made it clear there’s no ego involved.
He emphasized he’s ready to contribute however needed, starter or not. That’s maturity — especially for a young player adjusting to changing roles.
Head coach Quin Snyder explained the move has been building since McCollum’s arrival.
The closing unit featuring Johnson, Okongwu, Alexander-Walker, Daniels, and McCollum has posted a net rating roughly 10 points better than any other Hawks combination.
That group flipped the Nets game with a 24–2 run in the final seven minutes — turning an 11-point deficit into a statement win.
McCollum delivered in his new role, putting up 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and a steal in 32 minutes.
Risacher, coming off the bench, added seven points in 20 minutes.
Snyder stressed the decision isn’t a reflection of doubt in Risacher.
He praised the rookie’s mindset and reiterated that development continues regardless of starting status.
In a season marked by heavy roster turnover — including additions like Corey Kispert and Jonathan Kuminga — competition is naturally tightening.
For Atlanta, it’s about balancing growth with winning now.
The message from Snyder is clear: roles can shift, trust remains, and nothing is set in stone.
