Haaland's Agent Fires Back at Barcelona Transfer Rumors
Rafaela Pimenta, the agent for Manchester City's star striker Erling Haaland, has unequivocally dismissed claims made by Barcelona presidential hopeful Victor Font regarding potential transfer discussions. Font had publicly stated his campaign was negotiating a "preferential option" to secure Haaland's services should the Norwegian international ever choose to depart from Manchester City.
Pimenta, however, directly contradicted Font's assertions. Speaking to La Sexta on Thursday, she clarified, "We have a lot of respect and admiration for Barcelona, but there hasn't been any contact whatsoever regarding a potential transfer." She further emphasized Haaland's contentment at the Premier League club, where he recently extended his contract until 2034. "The player renewed his contract a few months ago, he's very happy at Manchester City. Everything is going very well for him and we really have nothing to discuss about a transfer when everything is so good at City," Pimenta affirmed.
Font, who is vying against current incumbent Joan Laporta in the upcoming Sunday elections for the Barça presidency, had earlier conceded that a short-term transfer for Haaland was not feasible. Despite this, he expressed a strong belief that long-term contracts, such as Haaland's lengthy deal, are frequently not fulfilled. He aimed to position Barcelona to sign the striker in the future, citing Haaland's rumored fondness for Spain and the Camp Nou stadium, and the interest from rival clubs like Real Madrid.
It was confirmed that members of Font's team, including Carles Planchart, a former Manchester City employee, had met with City's hierarchy – CEO Ferran Soriano and sporting director Hugo Viana – in Madrid. However, an ESPN source offered an alternative perspective on this meeting, suggesting Planchart's visit was merely a courtesy call following his nine-year tenure at the English club, rather than a negotiation over Haaland.
Despite the official denial from Haaland's agent and the ambiguity surrounding the meeting, Font remained optimistic about his chances. He told SER Catalunya, "I personally am convinced that these contracts of 10 years or whatever, it's difficult that they're fulfilled. So we have to be prepared for when players of this talent [become available]." He added, "We are speaking about it [with City]. They have no interest in selling Haaland, of course, but they recognise you never know what can happen with a player in the medium to long-term." Font had hoped to announce a breakthrough on securing this "preferential option" before the Sunday election.
