Haaland Blitzes to Premier League Century, Shattering Records in Fulham Clash!

Erling Haaland has officially etched his name into Premier League history, becoming the fastest player to reach the coveted 100-goal milestone. The Manchester City striker achieved this phenomenal feat with his 17th-minute strike during Manchester City's thrilling 5-4 victory over Fulham on a recent Tuesday, marking his century of goals in just his 111th Premier League appearance.

This incredible pace shatters the long-standing record previously held by Premier League icon Alan Shearer, who reached 100 goals in 124 matches back in 1995. Haaland's achievement surpassed Shearer's record by a remarkable 13 appearances, solidifying his status as a truly unique talent in the English top flight. He is the 35th player to join the Premier League's '100 club'.

The match itself was a rollercoaster of emotions. Manchester City appeared to be cruising, taking an early 3-0 lead with goals from Haaland, Tijjani Reinders, and Phil Foden. After Emile Smith-Rowe pulled one back for Fulham, Foden scored again, followed by a Sander Berge own goal, putting City seemingly out of sight at 5-1. However, the introduction of Nigerian star Samuel Chukwueze sparked an incredible comeback attempt. Chukwueze, along with compatriot Alex Iwobi, rallied Fulham, with Chukwueze scoring his first-ever goal for the club in the 72nd minute and adding another soon after to bring the score to a nervy 5-4. Despite Fulham's spirited efforts, Manchester City held on for all three points.

Haaland's impact since joining Manchester City in July 2022 has been immediate and profound. In his debut season (2022-23), he set a new record with 36 Premier League goals. He followed this up with 27 goals in the 2023-24 season, collecting a pair of Golden Boots in his earliest opportunities. So far in the current season, he has scored 15 goals in 14 appearances, placing him three clear of his competitors as he chases a third top-scorer accolade. His overall goals-per-game rate in the Premier League stands at an astonishing 0.90.

In his rapid ascent to 100 goals, Haaland has surpassed a host of Premier League legends who took significantly more games to reach the same milestone. The top 10 fastest Premier League centurions now features Haaland at the summit, followed by:

  • Alan Shearer (124 games)
  • Harry Kane (141 games)
  • Sergio Agüero (147 games)
  • Thierry Henry (160 games)
  • Mohamed Salah (162 games)
  • Ian Wright (173 games)
  • Robbie Fowler (175 games)
  • Les Ferdinand (178 games)
  • Michael Owen & Andy Cole (185 games)

Haaland also holds the record for being the fastest player to reach 50 goals in the competition, achieving it in just 48 games and beating Andy Cole's previous record of 65 games.

While Haaland has shattered the speed record for 100 goals, he still has a considerable journey ahead to challenge Alan Shearer's ultimate Premier League career goal-scoring record of 260 goals, which Shearer amassed during his stints with Blackburn and Newcastle between 1992 and 2006. Haaland's current contract with Manchester City, a significant nine-and-a-half-year deal announced in January, runs through to the end of the 2033-34 season, providing ample time for him to potentially chase down this formidable tally, despite ongoing interest from European giants like Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The Norwegian international has developed a reputation for clinical finishing against specific opponents. Wolves are his favorite, having scored 10 goals in six appearances, including three and then four in his first two home games against them. He also boasts nine goals against West Ham and eight against Manchester United in six games apiece. His goal against Fulham was his seventh in as many games against the Cottagers.

Erling Haaland's relentless productivity and record-breaking achievements continue to redefine expectations in the Premier League, solidifying his place among the elite company of football legends and suggesting that more records are likely to fall in his remarkable career.
