Gusty winds stall intense heat, maximum temperature drops by 5°C in Gurgaon | Gurgaon News - Times of India
Gurgaon: The city on Sunday experienced a relief from the oppressive heat as the minimum temperature dropped to 28.3°C, marking a 1.2°C dip from the previous day. The maximum temperature also went down to 35.2°C, which was 40.2°C the day before, even as humidity levels hovered around 43%.Residents woke up with gusty winds blowing from around 4am to 7am. Some parts of the state witnessed light rain and the city too, saw drizzles in some isolated areas.Aman Verma, a resident of DLF 3, said, "The breeze was quite strong early in the morning. It felt like nature was finally giving us a break." Neha Bansal from Sector 90, said, "It drizzled here around 6am. While rain didn't last long, it cooled things down a bit."However, the weather department cautioned residents to brace for unstable weather conditions in the coming days. India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across the region from June 16 to June 21. Wind speeds are expected to range between 40–50 kmph, IMD said."The alert has been issued for people to stay cautious, especially during evening hours when storm activity is likely to pick up.
Residents are advised to avoid venturing out in the open during lightning, and stay updated with local advisories. There will be no change in maximum temperature for the next 24 hours, and there is likely to be a fall by three to five degrees thereafter," an IMD official said. The shift in weather comes amid a prolonged heat spell that gripped the region over the past few weeks, prompting health warnings. While the slight drop in temperature may offer temporary respite, weather experts caution that such fluctuations are typical in pre-monsoon periods and do not signal a consistent cooling trend. More relief is expected only once the southwest monsoon reaches the state.Meanwhile, experts also highlighted the importance of preparedness, as sudden weather changes could impact daily routines, construction activity, and traffic movement across the city.
