Dr Cassiel Ato Forson is the Minister of Finance

The Ministry of Finance has terminated the role of an independent director, Dr. Yaw Ansu, who was serving on the board of Development Bank Ghana (DBG), following the release of audit reports that raised serious concerns about governance and oversight practices within the institution.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 19, 2025, as sighted by GhanaWeb Business, the sector minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson said the decision was taken “in response to recent audit findings which identified governance lapses requiring immediate corrective action.”

According to the statement, the weaknesses in the bank's internal controls and board oversight prompted the ministry to take swift action to restore public trust in the bank’s operations.

The removal of the independent directors is expected to pave the way for a board restructuring aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability.

The Development Bank Ghana was launched in 2021 to provide long-term financing to businesses and support private sector growth.

DBG plays a central role in Ghana’s economic development strategy.
