Golden Globes Unforgettable Moments: Mirren's Audacious Humor & SJP's Sentimental Reunion

“Golden Eve: The Golden Globes Honor Helen Mirren & Sarah Jessica Parker,” which aired on Thursday night on CBS, celebrated two esteemed actresses with prestigious awards. Sarah Jessica Parker received the Carol Burnett Award, while Dame Helen Mirren was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award during this kickoff show to the Golden Globes ceremony.
Sarah Jessica Parker's honor was a “Sex and the City” celebration. She was supported by her husband, Matthew Broderick, and children, along with her co-stars Kristin Davis, Evan Handler, and David Eigenberg, known as Charlotte, Harry, and Steve from the HBO series and its revival, “And Just Like That.” Kristin Davis delivered a tearful speech, emphasizing the theme of friendship and chosen family from “Sex and the City,” telling Parker, “that’s what you are to me.” The evening featured two montages showcasing Parker’s career, one dedicated to roles outside of Carrie Bradshaw and another exclusively to her iconic character. Clips of Parker winning a Golden Globe showed Davis and Cynthia Nixon applauding, though Kim Cattrall, due to her longstanding feud with Parker, and Chris Noth, who was removed from “And Just Like That” after multiple sexual assault claims, were notably absent. After an introduction by Broderick, Parker took the stage, reflecting on her reverence for Carol Burnett since childhood and thanking her for being a “North Star.” She also expressed her deep affection for the characters and ensemble of “Sex and the City,” stating, “I met Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, Samantha Jones and Miranda Hobbs, and I spent 25 years with the most glorious ensemble of women and actors.”
Dame Helen Mirren was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award by Harrison Ford, her co-star from “The Mosquito Coast” (1986) and “1923.” Ford lauded Mirren as a “badass,” describing her as “raw, authentic, formidable, tough and fearless,” and praising her undeniable screen presence and commitment to character. Following a montage of her extensive work, Ford concluded by bowing down, acknowledging her majestic career. In her acceptance speech, Mirren humorously recalled receiving her first two Golden Globes for the
