Google AI Health Coach to Use Abbott Glucose Data for Personalised Wellness Guidance
Abbott and Google are partnering to integrate data from Abbott's Lingo continuous glucose monitor (CGM) into Google's AI-powered Health Coach. This collaboration will allow users to view glucose trends alongside other health metrics, enabling the Gemini-powered coach to provide personalized wellness recommendations for nutrition, activity, sleep, and recovery. The Lingo CGM, designed for non-insulin users, aims to help individuals understand the impact of daily activities on their glucose levels.
Abbott and Google have entered a multiyear agreement to integrate data from Abbott’s Lingo continuous glucose monitor (CGM) into Google’s Gemini-powered Health Coach. The integration will allow eligible users to view Lingo glucose trends alongside information such as activity and sleep within the Google Health app, with the system using the combined data to generate personalised wellness recommendations.
The feature is expected to begin rolling out later this year and will be available through a Google Health Premium subscription. Lingo is an over-the-counter wearable glucose monitor for adults aged 18 and above who do not use insulin, designed to help users understand how factors such as food, exercise and daily activities affect glucose levels.
The sensor can be worn for up to 14 days and transmits glucose readings to the Lingo app, but the system is intended for wellness rather than diabetes treatment and does not provide glucose or system alerts.
Google has also stressed that its Health Coach is not a medical service and that AI-generated responses may be incomplete or inaccurate, advising users to verify information and consult healthcare professionals when necessary.
The partnership will also support a large real-world study examining metabolic health by combining continuous glucose readings with wearable data, laboratory results and user surveys. The research will explore links between activity, sleep, wellbeing and metabolic health, with findings expected to inform future Lingo features and improvements to Google Health Coach.
As Google expands the health information available to its AI tools, the company says users retain control over their Health data, including the ability to manage, export or delete information, while Google states that Health data is not used for advertising.
