Giannis just made the perfect case for Spurs to trade for him overnight

Published 13 hours ago3 minute read

Giannis took the time to answer questions from fans last night on social media, and he had some interesting answers that we're going to read way too much into. It's the offseason, and we have a long way to go before we see the guys in uniform again, so let's have some fun.

Well, guess who's a big fan of Mexican food? If the Greek Freak wants to live in a city with some of the best tacos this country has to offer, San Antonio is the place to be. The 210 has the finest enchiladas and fajitas I've had the pleasure of tasting, and I highly advise Giannis to head to the Spurs to placate his love for Mexican cuisine.

Now, if you want basketball reasons for the Bucks' star to consider based on his Q&A, the Spurs could offer him the sort of defensive flexibility he covets, and their offensive personnel will enable him to play the style of basketball he enjoys most.

Let's start with the obvious problem for opponents. Scoring on Victor Wembanyama and Giannis Antetokounmpo would be nearly impossible. Their size, athleticism, quickness, and elite instincts would render offenses frustrated on most nights. The guards on the perimeter would be able to play more aggressively, gambling for more steals, knowing that two defensive anchors are holding them down.

The lineups will differ, but Antetokounmpo wouldn't need to be the primary defender on most nights. Stephon Castle and Jeremy Sochan will handle that responsibility in this hypothetical scenario, allowing their new teammate to roam the floor and make disruptive plays that will, no doubt, lead to fast-break opportunities. That's nightmare fuel right there.

What defense wants to see the speed of De'Aaron Fox zipping down the court with the force of Giannis, the relentlessness of Castle, and the downright ridiculousness of Wembanyama behind him coming at them on the break? It'd be the scariest box of chocolates you'll ever see.

The transition offense is easy to visualize. It's the half-court offense some have concerns about. Until the shooting is addressed, people will continue to have doubts about it. But I think it's unreasonable to assume Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle won't improve as shooters. They've already shown how badly they want to succeed. Players like that work on their game tirelessly.

Suppose Harrison Barnes keeps shooting the air out of the ball, and Area 51 improves their three-point percentages to slightly above league average. They'll have plenty of shooting on the floor around Giannis to run those four-out sets he enjoys.

The latest reports indicate that Milwaukee's front office requested a meeting with the Greek Freak scheduled for some time in the middle of the week. It's anticipated that their plans for the future will be revealed, and the hope is that Giannis will then indicate whether he wants to stay or go.

If he requests a trade, he should refer back to this Q&A and remember what's important. San Antonio is the right fit offensively and defensively, and they have endless options for Mexican food. That makes them the perfect suitor.
