Ghanaian soldier who refused bribe from illegal miners promoted, receives UN posting
Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu has been promoted by GAF for rejecting a bribe from illegal miners
Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu, a Ghanaian soldier who was celebrated for rejecting a bribe from illegal miners, has been promoted by the Ghana Armed Forces and nominated to serve with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
At a well-attended all-ranks durbar held at Burma Camp in Accra on Friday, July 11, 2025, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, announced Teye-Tsu’s promotion from Private to Lance Corporal, effective immediately, according to a report by graphic.com.gh
Currently with the Public Relations Department of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lance Corporal Teye-Tsu has also been selected to serve with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
The report noted that he received a second citation for his conduct at the event, which brought together senior officers and ranks from across the military.
Commending him, the CDS stressed that the Armed Forces remains committed to upholding discipline and honour.
“Much as acts of indiscipline will attract sanctions, professional conduct such as that of L/Cpl Teye-Tsu will attract reward and commendation,” he said.
30-year-old Lance Corporal Teye-Tsu made headlines in 2025 while on guard duty at the Bibiani Gold Mines.
When approached by a group of illegal miners who attempted to bribe him for access to restricted mining pits, he refused the offer, arrested them, and handed them over to the authorities.
His actions drew tons of praises from the public.
Ojeyz Security Limited, the private security firm managing the site, honoured him with a citation for “Outstanding Staff Recognition.”
The citation, signed by the company’s founder, Captain Haruna Adamu (Rtd), lauded his professionalism and dedication to excellence.
Here is a brief profile of Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu
Enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces in 2023, L/Cpl Teye-Tsu hails from Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region.
He is a former student of Manya Krobo Senior High School and King David College and also a member of Kloma Gbi, a youth network advocating for development in the Krobo area, the report added.
