The appeal emerged during the third National Financial Awareness and Financial Literacy Conference, organized by the Center for Financial Literacy Education (CFLE) as part of Financial Literacy Month.

John Awuah, CEO of the Ghana Association of Banks and CFLE advisory board member, emphasized collective responsibility in bridging knowledge gaps. “Financial education cannot be siloed regulators, banks, insurers, telecom firms, and fintechs must unite to equip citizens with critical skills,” he stated. Awuah highlighted the need for targeted initiatives to address disparities in financial understanding amid a rapidly evolving economic landscape.

CFLE Africa Executive Director Peter Asare Nyarko expanded on the stakes, noting that financial literacy transcends personal budgeting. “It’s a developmental imperative. Poor money management fuels vulnerability, stifles growth, and perpetuates inequality,” he said. The conference convened students, professionals, and civil society groups for workshops on leveraging financial education to foster resilience, entrepreneurship, and community uplift.

Organizers pledged to expand access to literacy programs, particularly for marginalized groups, underscoring their role in building an inclusive economy. The event also spotlighted partnerships with schools to integrate financial literacy into curricula, aiming to instill foundational skills early.

Ghana’s push aligns with broader African efforts to prioritize financial education as a driver of sustainable development. Similar initiatives, like the expanded Kwahu Business Forum, reflect a growing recognition that empowering citizens with economic knowledge is vital for translating policy reforms into tangible progress. As digital and green economies advance, fostering a financially savvy population may prove pivotal in ensuring Ghana and the continent harnesses innovation equitably.
