Ghanaian sprinter Ibrahim Fuseni has expressed immense joy after clocking a sub-10 second time for the first time in his career.

The 22-year-old stormed to victory in the men’s 100m at the ATX Sprint Classic in Texas on Saturday, recording a wind-assisted time of 9.85 seconds (+2.4 m/s).

He finished ahead of Americans David Foster and Dapriest Hogans, who both clocked 9.95 seconds to place second and third, respectively.

Reflecting on the performance, Fuseni revealed that a lesson from his previous race helped him push through the finish this time.

“In my last race, I eased up with about 30 meters to go.

“After reviewing the footage, I realized I had the potential to break the 10-second barrier if I ran through the line. So this time, I made sure not to hold back.

"It feels incredible to finally do it—even with the slight tailwind.”

Fuseni has been in impressive form throughout the season and now has his sights set on qualifying for the World Championships in Tokyo later this year, aiming to become the third Ghanaian sprinter, after Abdul Rasheed Saminu and Benjamin Azamati, to secure a spot at the global event.
