Ayariga claims he holds three doctorates one earned through academic study in political science and two honorary and insists GTEC violated due process by not verifying his credentials privately before the public directive.

According to GTEC’s 14 July 2025 letter, Ayariga failed to provide documentation proving his doctorate’s legitimacy despite repeated requests for:

Ayariga countered in a media statement: “GTEC never wrote to me. I heard this on social media. If they’d followed procedure, I’d have submitted proof. Now I’ll sue to correct this character assassination.” He declined to name the foreign university granting his academic doctorate, citing legal strategy.

The dispute highlights tensions over honorary titles in Ghana’s political sphere. GTEC maintains unauthorized use of academic titles “misleads the public and violates academic protocols,” while Ayariga argues honorary doctorates common among Ghanaian public figures warrant respectful recognition.

Legal experts note defamation claims would require Ayariga to prove GTEC’s statement was false, damaging, and negligent. The case could test bureaucratic accountability under President Mahama’s administration.
