Get Ready to Dazzle: Benin's Edo Carnival 2025 Promises a Week-long Spectacle of Culture and Colour!

Benin City, Edo State, is gearing up to host the maiden edition of Edo Carnival 2025, a magnificent week-long celebration scheduled to take place from December 21 to 27. Under the theme 'our culture our pride,' this event aims to transform the ancient city into Nigeria's cultural capital, drawing visitors, tourists, and performers from across the country and beyond. The carnival is poised to be an unforgettable display of the rich heritage, vibrant music, and profound artistry of the Edo people.
The journey to the main carnival week involves multiple carefully planned phases. Pre-launch activities, designed to build anticipation and excitement, will run from October 1 to November 30. This phase includes extensive media campaigns, engagement with influencers, and citywide promotions. Following this, the launch phase will commence from December 1 to 20, featuring various band activations, engaging challenges, and community events that will further energize the local populace. The grand culmination will be the carnival week itself, from December 21 to 27, when Benin City will truly burst into life with spectacular parades, captivating concerts, and diverse cultural showcases.
The 2025 carnival boasts an exciting lineup of events, ensuring something for everyone. Highlights include the Grand Opening Ceremony on December 21, a Cultural Band Competition and Night Concert on December 22, and a Trade Fair combined with a Comedy Show on December 23. The festivities continue with a Pageant Night on December 24, a joyous Christmas Family Fiesta on December 25, and the highly anticipated Grand Band Parade on December 26. The carnival will conclude with the Awards and Closing Concert on December 27, an event that will be presided over by the State governor, Monday Okpebholo.
A stellar array of carnival bands, including Eniware, Osigo, Queen Idia, Ohanmian, Enhenugha, Governor’s Band, Royal Band, and Black Rio, are set to animate Edo’s rich history and vibrant spirit. These bands will tell stories inspired by royal traditions through their colorful costumes, intricate choreography, and powerful storytelling. Adding to the musical spectacle, top Nigerian artists will grace the stage, offering a unique blend of Afrobeat with traditional Edo rhythms, celebrating creativity and identity in a captivating fusion.
