Fuel prices set to rise despite suspension of revised Energy Sector Levy - COMAC predicts

Fuel prices dropped in the second pricing window of June 2025

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has projected that fuel prices at retail stations are expected to rise starting tomorrow, July 1, 2025, during the first pricing window of the month.

COMAC estimates that petrol prices could increase by 2%, diesel by 5%, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by 1%. If this happens, it will mark the first fuel price increase since February 2025.

The Chief Executive Officer of COMAC, Dr. Riverson Oppong, made this announcement at a press briefing in Accra on June 30, 2025, ahead of the next pricing window for petroleum products.

He noted that although the newly revised Energy Sector Levy is currently on hold and has not yet been implemented, fuel prices are still expected to rise.

"Even before the newly revised Energy Sector Levy, which is currently on hold, is enforced, our forecasts show that prices at the pumps may rise," he said.

The anticipated increase is based on prevailing global market conditions and other influencing factors, suggesting that consumers may face higher fuel costs even before the levy officially takes effect.

Meanwhile, COMAC is advocating for a regulatory review of the petroleum downstream sector to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
