FRSC urges fleet operators to install speed limiters after fatal Lagos-Ibadan road crash
The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akinwumi Fasakin, has called on fleet operators to ensure the installation of speed limit devices, prioritise safety, and remain conscious while driving.
He emphasised the importance of conducting regular mechanical checks and maintenance on vehicles.
His statement follows the tragic death of five passengers in a road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Seven others sustained injuries in the accident, which occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday near Car Park C Area, Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Council of Ogun State.
Fasakin advised road users to focus on driving and adhere to designated speed limits for different types of vehicles. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured victims.
According to the sector’s Route Commander and Public Education Officer, Florence Okpe, the crash involved two vehicles: a Yellow Mazda Bus with registration number LGB465XA and an Ash Howo Truck with no registration number.
She said: “A total of 12 passengers were involved in the crash with five fatalities and seven injuries. The injured passengers were taken to Famobis Hospital in Mowe, while the deceased were taken to Idera Morgue.”
Okpe stressed that the suspected causes of the crash were speeding, brake failure, and loss of control by the Howo truck driver, who collided with the Mazda bus while negotiating a turn at Car Park C.
