Four Killed in Residential Fire in Kawangware, Nairobi

Nairobi has been hit by a series of devastating fire incidents, claiming multiple lives and displacing numerous residents. The most recent tragedy occurred in Kawangware, near the Stage 2 area of Congo, where a fierce blaze engulfed and destroyed a four-storey residential building. Preliminary reports suggest that an electrical fault may have been the cause of the inferno, which led to the confirmed deaths of four people. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as residents desperately tried to escape the rapidly spreading flames. In a poignant moment, a woman was heard crying out in distress, stating that her neighbor was trapped inside the burning structure, highlighting the panic and despair of those affected. The fire left many residents without homes, having lost all their personal belongings in the destruction. Videos circulating on social media captured the widespread panic as people fled for safety, vividly illustrating the scale of the disaster. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding this tragic event, as investigations into its cause are still ongoing.

This incident in Kawangware follows closely on the heels of another severe fire that ravaged Kibra just weeks prior. The Kibra inferno tragically claimed the lives of eight individuals, including four members of a single family. Additionally, six people sustained serious injuries while attempting to escape and were promptly rushed to the hospital for treatment. Kibra MP Peter Orero confirmed the extent of the casualties and injuries. In response to the crisis, the Kenya Red Cross, in a collaborative effort with community members and the Nairobi Fire Brigade, launched a swift and coordinated rescue operation to save those who were trapped. Furthermore, response teams, working in conjunction with Eagle Hospital, provided essential emergency care to at least 20 individuals who were injured during the fire. This devastating event in Kibra affected more than 40 households, leaving a significant number of people displaced and in need of assistance.
