Four Gujarat pilgrims on way to Kedarnath dead as car falls off bridge in UP

Agra: Four people from Gujarat on their way to Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand died after the car they were travelling in fell off an overbridge on the Panipat-Khatima national highway under Chhapar police station of Muzaffarnagar district on Monday evening.

The car driver suffered severe injuries and was admitted to district hospital.According to SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma, a police team rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to district govt hospital. "Four passengers were declared dead at the hospital, while one is undergoing treatment. We are gathering more information about the victims," he said.The deceased have been identified as Vipul, Bharat, Karan and Amit (police could get only their first names) and the injured driver as Jigar.

They were in the age group of 30-35 years and were from Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination and their families have been informed, police said.

Eyewitnesses said the car was on the overbridge when the driver lost control of it, causing the vehicle to break the railing and plunge into a field 20 feet below.Meanwhile, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the accident and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He directed the district administration to ensure that the injured gets proper treatment.
