Published 3 hours ago2 minute read

Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He collected his APC membership card at his residence in Warri, where he was welcomed by Delta South Women Leader, Alero Tenumah, and other local party leaders. Uduaghan expressed his commitment to working with the party towards the development of Delta State. His APC membership card is marked with the number ‘Delta WRN//023/32001’.

Uduaghan's daughter, Ms. Orode Uduaghan, who serves as the Delta State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Child Development, also obtained her APC membership card. Tenumah encouraged the new members to contribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's M.O.R.E Agenda, assuring Dr. Uduaghan of a strong working relationship to strengthen the party in Warri North Local Government Area and across the state.

In a separate development, Senator Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, has defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Sumaila’s defection on the Senate floor. Sumaila cited severe divisions and dysfunction within the NNPP as the reason for his departure. He highlighted the numerous litigations that have fractured the party and created internal disunity, leadership issues, and operational legitimacy concerns.

Sumaila’s defection letter, addressed to the Senate leadership, referenced Section 68, subsection 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended. He emphasized that his decision was based on undeniable developments that have rendered the NNPP severely divided. Following the announcement, APC senators welcomed Sumaila and escorted him to his new seat within the majority party. With this change, the APC now holds 65 seats in the Senate, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 33, the Labour Party (LP) five, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) two, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) one, bringing the total number of senators to 107, with two seats remaining vacant.
