Football Icons Score Big: Super Eagles Soar to AFCON 2025 Semi-Finals!

Nigeria's Super Eagles have confidently advanced to the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, securing a 2–0 victory over Algeria in a highly anticipated quarter-final clash. This win sets the stage for a compelling encounter with host nation Morocco in the last four.
The match saw a cautious first half with neither side breaking the deadlock, but Nigeria returned after the break with renewed intent and clinical execution. Just two minutes into the second half, Victor Osimhen opened the scoring, skillfully guiding a long cross from Bruno Onyemaechi into the net, giving Nigeria the crucial lead.
Ten minutes later, Osimhen turned provider, assisting Akor Adams. Adams, demonstrating remarkable composure, rounded goalkeeper Luca Zidane and finished into an empty net, doubling Nigeria's advantage. This second goal epitomized the Super Eagles' control and efficiency throughout the second half.
Algeria struggled significantly to establish a foothold in the game, particularly in midfield, where possession was repeatedly conceded under pressure from Nigeria. Their star player, Riyad Mahrez, was largely neutralized, and frustration became evident in Algeria's play, resulting in several bookings as Nigeria maintained control of the proceedings.
Despite creating multiple chances in the first half, the Super Eagles were unable to extend their lead earlier, with Akor Adams notably missing a late opportunity that could have made the scoreline even more decisive. However, Nigeria comfortably saw out the contest after a lengthy period of stoppage time, effectively denying Algeria any clear scoring chances throughout the match.
The result marks another quarter-final exit for the former champions, Algeria, while Nigeria takes a significant step closer to claiming their first AFCON title since 2013. The Super Eagles are now scheduled to face Morocco in the semi-finals on Wednesday, January 14.
