Flamingos' World Cup Dream Nears Reality: Final Camp Squad Revealed!

Nigeria's U17 women's national team, affectionately known as the Flamingos, has officially commenced the crucial first phase of their final preparations for the eagerly anticipated 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Morocco. Head Coach Hakeem Busari has extended invitations to a formidable squad of 26 promising players to participate in this initial camping program, marking a significant step towards their global campaign. The team is slated to report to the Serob Legacy Hotel in Wuye, Abuja, on Sunday, August 30th, as the coaching staff and players intensify their training and strategic planning ahead of the prestigious tournament, set to run from October 17th to November 7th.

The Flamingos secured their well-deserved spot at the global finals through a commanding performance in the African qualifying series. They notably defeated the Benin Republic both at home and away in the final round, demonstrating their prowess and determination on the continental stage. Nigeria boasts an impressive and consistent record at the U17 Women’s World Cup, having featured in all but one edition since the competition's inauguration in New Zealand in 2008. Their sole absence from the tournament was in 2018, when it was held in Uruguay, underscoring their strong tradition and presence at this youth football spectacle.
